Legends No. 149
This Legends safe is probably the most impressive monument of antique safe construction history. Its size and its history are both breathtaking, having been discovered during demolition work in a hidden cellar vault in Monza, Italy. The safe, which reveals extraordinary technical finesse and incredible engineering standards for its time, bears the gravure of its builder Joannes Porrus (Giovanni Porro), the date of construction 1770 and the abbreviation MLNI for Milan (Milano). 1770 Its massive iron bolt work and highly complicated trick closures made it a unique high-security safe in its day. To transfer this standard to today’s standards, the restorers at Döttling fitted the safe with the latest security technologies, including an “intelligent” defense system.
